☀️ Light Requirements

Bearded Irises are sun-worshippers. They require at least 6 to 8 hours of direct sunlight per day to bloom reliably. If they are planted in too much shade, they may produce lush foliage but will refuse to flower.

The most common mistake with Iris germanica is planting them too deep.

• New Plantings: Water regularly until established.
• Established Plants: Once established, they are moderately drought-tolerant. Water them deeply during dry spells, but always allow the soil to dry out significantly between waterings.

Once a bloom stalk has finished flowering, cut the stalk down to the base to tidy the plant and prevent it from wasting energy on seed production.

Seasonal Cleanup

In late autumn, trim the foliage back to a fan shape (about 10–15 cm tall) after the first frost, removing any brown or diseased leaves to keep the garden bed clean for the next season.
